Another new year and another resolution?? Oh nooo…..not again! The most common resolutions that I hear are about weight-loss and joining the gym. Do you know why? We are constantly bombarded by TV advertisements for weight-loss programs and gym memberships. Nutrisystem, Weight Watchers, South Beach, Jenny Craig, Keto, etc. Even if we weren’t thinking about it, we fall right into the HYPE that we probably need it.

Here’s the deal – they seldom work and we usually end up feeling “less than” as a result. Right? We all have good intentions but it always feels like a forever “thing” and who wants to spend their life dieting? Personally I think we need to get rid of that word.  In my opinion, it has us feeling broken, that we are always needing to be fixed.

Raise your hand if you’re in agreement!!

Is that any way to start the New Year? Heck no!! That’s why I say

Don’t BUY into the HYPE!!!!

But more importantly……that’s not what you want to eat! A lot of these foods are loaded with chemicals, flavor enhancers, preservatives and the like. We have been counting all the wrong things – calories, points, carbs and measuring out portions. How does that make you feel? Will you lose weight? Probably. But will you be healthy? That’s the million-dollar question!

11 years ago before I even knew what I know now I tried Nutrisystems. I was excited. All the meals came in a big box – desserts were free – yippee! I got Chicken Parmesan, Lasagna, Chocolate cake and all kinds of goodies. Guess what? I didn’t even have to refrigerate it. Can you imagine? I could leave it all in the big box on the kitchen floor.

I never even questioned the lack of refrigeration. The way it was presented and advertised on TV, I didn’t even think there could be anything wrong with it! I remember calling them and asking them the shelf life of the Lasagna and much to my surprise it was 6 to 12 months! Holy Sh*t!! Imagine that – WOW!!

So this is a perfect segway into my next point. Do you have any idea how many chemicals it takes to make a Lasagna with a shelf life of up to 12 months and still have it look and taste good? More than I care to think of. I still shudder when I think about that and what the heck was I eating anyway???? It definitely wasn’t real food that I know! Back then I didn’t read ingredient labels. Can’t imagine what was on it.

When you are counting your points for Weight Watchers are you also looking at the ingredient list? What’s in there? Look them up if they are not familiar. Are your ingredients genetically modified? If they are, they contain Glysophate which is a poison commonly used for killing weeds.

The sad truth is we are considered to be the unhealthiest nation and yet the wealthiest nation for a reason. We spend more on healthcare than any other country in the world and yet we are the sickest. Why? Because of our government’s policies. We allow chemicals in the processing of our foods where most other countries don’t. Things like food dyes, flavor enhancers, way too much sugar, emulsifiers so oil and water can mix, butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) to prolong shelf life

Weight-loss is not a one size fits all. We are all individuals with our own unique DNA and eating habits. What works for me may not work for you. You may be inflamed, have leaky gut, food allergies and you don’t even know it. If that’s the case you will follow a whole different protocol. I know people that have done KETO and swear by it. I know others who started gaining weight back and had to stop.

So here’s the TRUTH. Losing weight is about being the healthiest you can be. Eating foods free of chemicals and other additives. That means clean whole foods that don’t come with an ingredient list such as vegetables especially the dark leafy greens and fruits of color. Wild-caught fish, grass-fed beef, organic chicken, healthy fats (avocados, coconut oil, olive oil, nuts, and seeds.) Lots of smoothies too.

NOTHING in a box or a bag. In other words no processed foods.

The byproduct of being the healthiest you can be? Weight-loss, tons of energy, clarity, no more brain fog, better sleep, no more bloating and that’s just to name a few.

The byproduct of not? Immune disorders, digestive issues, depression & anxiety, heart disease, autism, ADD & ADHD, Alzheimer’s, diabetes just to name a few. If you continue to eat processed foods it is only a matter of time before you are diagnosed. The symptoms to look for: bloating, brain fog, fatigue, joint pain – all signs of inflammation. If you do nothing to reverse these you are setting the stage for disease to thrive. How can you reverse these? By eating the healthiest you can as I’ve outlined above.
